Politics and the Internet

This instructions correspond to the lesson found in PowerPoint "Politics: Staying Informed and Speaking out through the Internet." 

1)   Introduction:  Read the slide and welcome the class (30 seconds)
 2)   “Do you all remember the effect Twitter had on the 2009-2010 Iranian election?  Well, if you don’t, we’re going to watch a video to refresh your memory.” (30 seconds) Watch video (5:29 mintues)
 3)   Read slide and anticipate questions (2 minutes)
 4)   Explain the group discussion process (30 seconds) Have the students discuss the questions (5 minutes).  Have the students share their responses with the rest of the class (5 minutes).
 5)   “The 2008 Presidential election utilized social media like no other election before it.  Obama’s online campaign is one for the history books.” (30 seconds) Play video (2:44 minutes).
 6)   Read slide and anticipate questions (2 minutes)
 7)   Explain the group discussion process (30 seconds).  Have the students discuss the questions (5 minutes).  Have the students share their responses with the rest of the class (5 minutes).
 8)   Read slide and anticipate questions (1 minute).  Click on the link at the bottom of the page and explore the website and its links (2 minutes).
 9)   Read slide (30 seconds)
10)     Read slide and anticipate questions (1 minute)
11)     Read slide and anticipate questions (1 minutes)
12)     Read slide (1 minute) and watch video (3:16 minutes)
13)     Read slide (1 minute)
14)     Read slide and anticipate questions (1 minute)
15)     Read slide and anticipate questions (1 minute)
16)     Read slide and anticipate questions (1 minute)
17)     Read slide and anticipate many questions (2 minutes)
            18)  Don’t need to show in class (0 minutes)
